What all neds done to install a 3″ lift kit on a jeep grand cherokee?

I know with the bigger lifts theres some stuff that you need to moidfy but i don’t want to go through all that I’m thinking of buying a 3″ body lift for my 97 Jeep grand Cherokee and before i do i make to make sure the lift is small enough that i won’t need anything like a transfer case drop or new drive line does anyone know

First off you can’t do a “body lift” on a grand cherokee, they are unibody and don’t actually have a frame. About the cheapest way to lift it is the “budget boost” which is a spacer (1/2″ – 2″) that you place between the coil spring and the bump stop. Having said that you can safely do up to 4″ of lift without modifing anything except what comes with the lift kit. I put a 3.5″ suspension lift on my 97′ grand cherokee and it was pretty simple and done in my driveway in a day. I would suggest checking out a couple of sites so you get an idea of what you would be in for.. Oh and before I forget there is the front to back swap…you take the srings from a V8 or upcountry grand cherokee and place them in the front of your jeep, then take the springs from the front (that you took out) and place them in the back…instant couple of inchs. Never tried it but it is a common start when it comes to a lift for the ZJ. (93-98 grands)

From what I remember the lift I got from Kevins Offroad was very simple to install and the only specialty tool I needed I was able to rent from Advance auto…a spring compressor for my coil springs.

Basically all you do it compress one spring at a time. Compress it enough to pull it out from the bump stop and the compress the new one enough to slide it in.
The kit I got also came with longer travel shocks and again that was easy as well, take the old one off and put the new ones one (this is done at the same time as the springs)
If you are going 3″ or more I would also recomend a kit that has sway bar endlinks, get quick disconnects if you are going to really wheel the jeep. Again these were fairly straight forward on installation as well.
